Details

Kiln transmutation refers to unplanned colour and flow produced by shifting temperature and atmosphere in the kiln; the rust, silver-grey and pale blue crystallisation cannot be fully reproduced, so every piece is unique. The technique shares its lineage with the black glaze of the Liao-Jin era Huairen kilns, and is listed as municipal intangible cultural heritage. Because it cannot be duplicated, acceptance should be agreed on “same series character” rather than “identical pattern”.

FAQ

Can pieces be made identical?

No. Transmutation depends on kiln atmosphere and position, and low repeatability is precisely its value. For volume orders, agree an acceptable range of pattern variation first.
